12/06/2009 - Seattle, WA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The 12th-ranked Washington Huskies will try to bounce back from their first loss tonight, as they entertain the Cal State Northridge Matadors in non-conference action at Bank of America Arena.
The Huskies hit the road for the first time on Thursday and were met with their first setback, a 99-92 overtime loss to Texas Tech in Lubbock. Washington had played a couple of close games this season, so it was only a matter of time before someone pulled off an upset. Still, Washington is a solid 5-1 on the campaign and the lone Pac-10 team currently ranked in the Top 25.
As for the Matadors, they have started to heat up following a slow start and they bring a three-game winning streak into tonight's bout. The most recent of those triumphs came on Thursday, a narrow 95-93 triumph of Idaho that pushed CSUN to 4-3 overall.
All three prior meetings between CSUN and Washington have been won by the Huskies, including an 80-66 decision in the last encounter in 2007.
Kenny Daniels erupted for a career-high 39 points and 10 rebounds, leading CSUN to a 95-93 shootout victory over Idaho on Thursday. He went 12-of-17 from the floor and 13-of-15 at the foul line for the Matadors, who shot 52.5 percent from the field and 25-of-32 at the stripe as a team. Vinnie McGhee added 14 points to the win and he went 4-of-4 from downtown, while Lanny Daniel posted 11 points and eight boards. After seven games, Daniels has clearly established himself as the go-to-guy for CSUN, as he tops the roster with a solid average of 19.7 ppg. Willie Galick is a distant second at 11.1 ppg and he is also collecting 5.9 rpg.
Washington's Elston Turner missed two frees with 4.8 seconds left in regulation of a tied game and the Huskies couldn't slow down Texas Tech in overtime of 99-92 loss on Thursday. The Huskies allowed 19 points in the extra period, ruining another big effort from Quincy Pondexter, who dropped in 31 points and recorded three steals. Pondexter is one of the most prolific scorers in the nation, averaging 22.3 ppg, and he is also a factor on the glass, ripping down 10.0 rpg. Isaiah Thomas gives the Huskies a second big time scoring threat, as he turns in 20.2 ppg, to go with 4.0 rpg. Thomas wasn't at his best against Texas Tech, but he managed to finish with 18 points despite a 4-of-15 effort from the field.
