Mets swat Nats to complete sweep

Baseball Betting Lines

08/19/2007 - Washington, DC (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Carlos Beltran went deep twice and knocked in four runs as the New York Mets pulled away late to down the Washington Nationals, 8-2, and complete a three-game sweep at RFK Stadium.

Shawn Green and Marlon Anderson each knocked in a pair of runs in the eighth inning for the Mets, who have won six of seven.

Orlando Hernandez (8-4) pitched seven solid innings to pick up the win and extend his unbeaten streak to eight straight starts. The veteran right-hander gave up two runs on three hits with four strikeouts and four walks.

Wily Mo Pena, acquired from Boston on Friday, hit his first home run with the Nationals, who have lost four straight overall.

Washington starter Shawn Hill matched Hernandez with seven strong inning, yielding seven hits and two runs.

However, with the score knotted at 2-2 in the eighth, New York took advantage of Washington's bullpen to take the lead.

Jon Rauch (8-4) replaced Shawn Hill on the mound and Luis Castillo greeted him with a leadoff single. David Wright followed with a double and Rauch intentionally walked Beltran to load the bases.

Green came through with a single up the middle that chased two runs home. Then, after Lastings Milledge struck out, Anderson's double over the head of Pena brought two more runs home to make it 6-2 New York

Chris Schroder took over for Rauch to stop the bleeding in the eighth, but Beltran crushed a two-run shot with two outs in the ninth to hand the Mets a six-run cushion.

New York struck in the first inning as Castillo walked, Wright singled to put runners on the corners and Beltran followed with a fly ball to left that plated Castillo.

The Nationals answered as Ryan Zimmerman's two-out RBI single in third tied the game and Pena's home run in the fourth gave Washington the lead.

Beltran responded with a home run in the sixth to tie the game at 2-2.

NFL Football Betting : Odds on NFL Division to Win the Super Bowl

NFL Super Bowl Betting

The AFC South and the NFC East are the favorite divisions to have the next Super Bowl champ among them in the NFL betting odds. But more down to the point, these football odds are in favor of the Indianapolis Colts, by far the strongest team in the AFC South, and the Dallas Cowboys of the NFC East.

Most sports fans would agree that these two teams top the list to win it all before the season even begins. In the BetUS Sportsbook football futures, the Colts are +800 in the odds to win the Super Bowl, while the Cowboys are sitting at +1000 and the Super Bowl XLIV champions New Orleans Saints at +900. In the AFC South, the Colts won the division for five straight years after the 2002 realignment, before the Tennessee Titans won it in 2008. But the Colts came back strong in 2009 to win the division again en route to the Super Bowl. The Cowboys are the favorite to win the NFC East, as well as to advance far into the post season. The Cowboys won the division last season before their horrendous loss in the NFC Divisional playoff to Brett Favre and the Minnesota Vikings. But the ‘Boys will take that loss humbly and be ready for the playoffs this time around.

The NFC South is also very strong, at +600 in the NFL futures, considering that it is home to the defending Super Bowl champions. However, some predictions have the Atlanta Falcons with possibilities of claiming the divisional title this season in place of the Saints, as no team has won back-to-back division championships since the division realignment took place. Let’s not overlook the AFC North at +500. As TO goes to Cincinnati to join Chad OchoCinco and Adam “Pac-Man” Jones, this team looks to claim the division title again. And it is likely they will do so. The Bengals lost in the AFC Wild Card spot in a hard-fought battle against the New York Jets last season. Lest not forget the Pittsburgh Steelers, the XLII Super Bowl Champions… All these teams present interesting odds and matchups for the upcoming season, but the safest and surest bet seems to be with the Colts in the AFC South and the Cowboys in the NFC East. Brandon Roy Favorite to Win 2007 NBA Rookie of the Year

Portland TrailBlazer’s guard, Brandon Roy, is MySportsbook.com’s overwhelming favorite to win the NBA Rookie of the Year odds.

Despite missing 20 games due to an injury earlier this season, Roy has definitely put up the best numbers of his 1st year peers. In 32 games, Roy is averaging 15.3 PPG, 4.2 boards and 3.5 assists in over 33 minutes of play per game. While most rookies breakdown as the season progresses (see Morrison), Roy is only getting stronger as his playing time and scoring average has increased each month.

With 30 or so games left in the regular season, Roy isn’t a lock for the award by any means. Other rookies are putting together some pretty impressive campaigns and a few could give Roy a run for the award with increased playing time. Heading the list is first pick, Andrea Bargnani of the Toronto Raptors. Even though he has started only two games all season, Bargnani is averaging 10.3 PPPG while shooting 35% from deep.

Randy Foye of the Minnesota Timberwolves could be set to give Roy the best competition NBA Rookie of the Year betting lines. With the benching of Mike James, Foye looks like he could be the starter in the T-Wolves backcourt for the rest of the season. So far, Foye has averaged 9 PPG and 2.4 assists in just under 21 minutes per game. With his new role of starter, Foye’s numbers will definitely increase. In his first game as the new starting guard this past Sunday, Foye had 10 points; five rebounds and 8 assists. More importantly, he logged 34 minutes of playing time; his third highest run of the season.

Adam Morrison, of the Charlotte Bobcats, was the favorite early on in the season after averaging 15+ PPG through the first month of the season. Ever since his torrid start, Morrison’s point production has declined each month. This really isn’t surprising, considering at 6’8” he only weighs 205 lbs. Obviously he will need to hit the weights big time during the off-season in order to keep from breaking down in the future.
