10/30/2006 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Buffalo Sabres can put their early-season unbeaten fairy tale behind them now. Instead of worrying about setting records and such, the club can focus on winning enough games to put them in the best position come spring.
On Saturday the Sabres lost a 5-4 shootout contest to Atlanta, ending their season-opening 10-game winning streak. The setback kept Buffalo from setting a new record for the most consecutive victories to open a campaign.
Slava Kozlov scored the lone goal in the shootout to lead the Thrashers, while goaltender Kari Lehtonen shined with 32 saves. Lehtonen also stopped all three Buffalo shooters -- Daniel Briere, Maxim Afinogenov and Thomas Vanek -- in the shootout.
Jason Pominville had a goal and two assists and Ryan Miller made 32 saves in the loss for the Sabres.
Buffalo's 10 straight wins tied the NHL record established by the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1993-94. The Sabres and Anaheim Ducks remain the only two NHL clubs without a regulation loss this season.
The Sabres were without defenseman Henrik Tallinder, who could possibly miss two months with a broken left arm.
Buffalo, which leads the NHL with 53 goals, will visit Boston on Thursday before hosting Toronto two nights later.
